 A-S C Eadwig became the King of Wessex on the death of Eadred.

956Dunstan sent into exile 
 A-S C Eadwig sent Dunstaninto exile. The reason for this is that Dunstan had caught Eadwig and Aelgifu together before they were married and at a time when Eadwig should have attended an important meeting. Dunstan must have upset Eadwig at this point and was sent into exile.

964Benedictines at Winchester 
 A-S C At the bidding of St. Dunstan Benedictine monks moved from the Abbey of Abingdon to Winchester. Work began on a new Saxon church on the site.

972Pershore Abbey charter confirmed 
 A-S C The rule of Benedictine was introduced to the abbey by St Oswald, the Bishop of Worcester. King Edgar confirmed the estates that the abbey owned.

973Edgar's water-pageant 
 A-S C Edgar arranged a water-pageant on the river Dee where he was rowed from Chester to the Minster of St. John by eight kings including Kenneth of Scotland, Malcolm of Cumberland, Maccus of the Isles and five welsh princes. Edgar held a festival in the honour of St. John but more likely to show his superiority over the other kings.
