Up until now the Vikings had raided islands and coastal communities but now they launched inland attacks. The Vikings attacked Southern Ui Néill and they took captives.2

Treaty of Verdun 
At the Treaty of Verdun the sons of Louis the Pious settled their differences and divided the empire up between themselves. Louis the German took control of the eastern area, now the area of Germany. Charles the Bald took the western area, now the area of France. Lothair received the area between the two as well as Italy and title of Emperor.
